IO Movie Review - Post-cataclysmic Netflix adventure aimed at the Middle Highlands
Today I am going to explain a Sci-Fi/Romance movie called 'IO'. Spoiler ahead! Be careful and take care! The film is set in a post-apocalyptic present,
Where Earth's atmosphere has become highly toxic. Some scientists predicted this
Advances and built a power station that was sent into space to harvest geothermal energy from other planets. Soon, people started dying of suffocation in their sleep and on the streets. The blood in their veins begins to turn black due to an unexpected change in composition Earth's atmosphere. Many have called it the world's last ditch effort
By throwing people out. The rest of the humans then boarded a hundred ships and fled the planet.
They soon arrived at a space station called the Exodus Mission. The station is like a lifeboat on Jupiter's volcanic moon called IO. However, not everyone was willing to leave the world and Sam Walden was one of the few people living there. He lives alone at high altitudes, where the air is still breathable. Sam is currently trying to breed bees that can survive in the atmosphere. He also continues the research of his father, Dr. Harry Walden. He taught Sam that the basic principle of nature is survival. It's in our minds, in our souls, to find life in whatever it is. Plant life evolved quickly to resist ammonia toxicity so Sam hopes that will help bees and other pollinators adapt. It can eventually clean the air by pollinating oxygen-producing plants. Sam and Dr. Walden believe that humans are taking to the stars in search of salvation and fail to realize that they are already in the most significantly equipped spacecraft. They believe that humans will inevitably adapt and thrive again on Earth. Meanwhile, Sam has a boyfriend named Elon who lives at IO Station. They often send each other emails as a form of communication. Elon wants Sam to join him on the station but he is convinced that Earth is not dying, just being reborn. One day, Sam receives an email from Elon revealing that the Space Council has officially announced the first New World Expedition, to find humanity's next home. want They chose Proxima Centauri b, an exoplanet that is an identical twin of Earth and ten years away from humans. All of Alan's friends applied for the mission. He also revealed that the announcement of the New World expedition had serious implications for the Exodus program.
Before Sam can finish reading the email, his computer crashes and he rides his ATV to an old abandoned library. There, he examines a mythical book, but a violent storm suddenly moves towards the building. This forces him to retreat to his shelter. Sam then fixed his computer and continued reading Elon's email. He learns that the Council's decision to declare the first new world campaign changes everything. Effective immediately, all spacecraft personnel, power and other critical supplies have been redirected to the New World Expedition. The rest of the Exodus shuttles on Earth will also be launched at four
As this will be his last chance, Elon urges Sam to leave Earth with his father The next day, Sam checks on his bees, only to find that all of them have died in a toxic storm It also destroyed his green house farm. frustrated,
He returns to his bed and later writes to Alan again. Sam reveals to Storm and the bees, explaining that he has lost all the genetic progress he made. Sam admits that he is
It's close to its breaking point right now. He admits that even if he wants to leave Earth, he won't be able to reach the launch site in time with the ATV and the amount of oxygen it can carry.
Moments later, an unknown man named Micah lands near the base on a helium balloon. See you soon
Sam goes along and says he wants to get to the launch site and leave Earth. But first, he wants to talk to Dr. Harry Walden. Sam offers her water which she filters using sand and charcoal. Mika is initially hesitant to drink the cloudy water but he reassures her that it is safe. She then introduces herself as Dr. Walden's assistant, hiding the fact that she is his daughter. When Mika asks to meet him, Sam claims that Dr. Walden is doing research somewhere outside the field. Mika asks to be taken there, but Sam says he can't because he doesn't know his exact location. As a result, Micah decides to wait for the scientist and Sam fixes some food for him. She gives him fresh vegetables grown in her greenhouse. At lunch, Sam asks if there are any creatures in the vast ocean. One of his dreams is to go there and feel the cold air. But Mika replies that there is nothing left in the world. All animals are extinct, even microorganisms are dying. In the next scene, Sam shows him his lab where he conducts his research. He also talks about his friend: Elon, who is currently working on a solar cell mission to Alpha Centauri. After that, he plays Dr. Walden's pre-recorded audio on the radio for people on Earth. This surprises Micah because he thought he was Dr. Walden is listening live. Sam replies that it's standard protocol for Dr. Walden to be out in the field and that he'll probably be back tomorrow. The next day the two talked,
Sam suddenly reveals that Elon is not her friend but her boyfriend. He asks Mika if he thinks it's weird but he says there's nothing wrong with loving someone who lives millions of miles away from you. He then opens up about himself, revealing that he once wanted to be a teacher, but ended up in a hot air balloon. Sam is impressed by her honesty and eventually admits that she is Harry Walden's daughter. Next, he takes her to the greenhouse and shows her how he pollinates his plants manually after all his bees have died. Sam's has three sister plants, corn, squash and beans. The corn provides structure for the beans to rise while the squash spreads through the soil. Beans provide nitrogen in return. Micah seems annoyed by this, so he changes the subject and asks about her tattoo. Sam reveals that it is Euler's equation and Noack's evolution equation. He explains the next equation and tells her that the symbols on the left represent all possible strings of molecules while the symbols on the right represent selection pressures and fitness ratings. In short, all that is necessary for the emergence of life are molecules subject to the forces of selection and mutation. If these conditions are met, self-replication occurs. When Micah asks about his rib cage marks, Sam reveals that he did it to improve his immune system. He also shows him a video clip of a pig that Dr. Walden reared in his lab.
Although it died after exposure to the poisonous air, it was still a great achievement. The next day, Micah finds Dr. Walden and his wife June's old bedroom. He asks Sam about his mother and he tells her that June got sick and died. After hearing this, Mika blames Dr. Walden for putting him in this poisoned world that led to June's death. He then suddenly rushes into his lab, and breaks down the door to Dr. Walden's office. Look, the room is in bad condition and it seems that no one has been there for a long time. When we find out that Dr. Walden is actually dead. The movie then flashes back to the past. After spending years in a post-apocalyptic world, conducting experiments and losing his wife, Dr. Walden realizes that the planet is beyond saving. She begs Sam to leave for IO but he refuses to let her go. Dr. Walden explains that sooner or later he will have to leave because he will be alone after he dies of health complications. Back in the present, Sam takes Micah to the place where his parents are buried. After paying his respects to the dead, Mika announces that he will take Sam with him to the spaceship. He also makes it clear that he won't take no for an answer, so he reluctantly agrees. Later, Sam writes to her lover that she has decided to leave Earth for good and that they will be reunited shortly. As she is packing her things, she notices that a queen bee has hatched in her hive and is immune to the poisonous air. This makes Sam really happy, but it doesn't change anything because he still plans to leave Earth for good The only problem is they can't leave now. The two have to wait for favorable winds to blow their hot air balloons towards their destination. Moments later, Sam receives a reply from his lover, expressing his joy that he will be leaving Earth. But then he revealed that he had signed up for a 10-year long New World Tour. This means that they will be apart for many, many years. The news devastated Sam and he broke down in tears. Seeing her upset,
Mika cooks for him and tells him about his time in the pre-apocalyptic world. He loves being in the suburbs and going out on the town with his friends. As time goes on, Mika becomes increasingly restless waiting for favorable winds. Meanwhile, Sam begins to feel lonely now that her boyfriend has moved away from her. He starts getting close to Mika and they make love. The next day, he wakes up to the news that the shuttle launch has been moved to another site far away from the original one. Mika inspects his helium reserves and concludes that he does not have enough fuel for the expedition. He despairs and laments that he is cursed. When Sam asks for his money, Micah reveals that he has seen a dozen people starve to death, including his wife. She was the main reason behind this because she selfishly hid food from them. However, Mika promises that she will never let anything happen to Sam. She is moved by his words but they have bigger issues to deal with right now. Sam reveals that he knows where they can find the helium. This excites Mika and the two set off for the city shrouded in toxic atmosphere. Fortunately, they can trace the fuel they use to refill their helium tanks. The next day, Mika prepares the balloon to leave for the launch site but Sam insists on going to an art museum first. She is reluctant at first, but eventually asks him to come back in an hour. Unfortunately, after a few minutes, Micah suddenly felt like he didn't want to leave Earth. This sends him into a panic and he immediately goes after her with an extra oxygen tank. Mika runs into the museum and finds herself admiring a classic painting. He assures Sam that he did what he could and that his father would be proud of him. He then asks her to come with him but he tells her to go alone. At this moment, Sam's alarm starts beeping, indicating that his oxygen supply has run out. Mika hastily gives him the spare tank but instead of changing it, he takes off his oxygen mask. The scene fades to black as Sam breathes in the poisoned air. The movie then jumps to the future and we learn that Mika traveled alone in a spaceship. As for Sam, he managed to survive
and decided to stay behind. Like a new queen bee in her colony, the changed environment is no longer toxic to her. The movie ends with her standing on the beach with a small child. appears
Her main goal while consorting with Micah was to revive the world.
